Hand painted advertisements are all but extinct in our fast paced modern times. Hundreds of vinyl adverts are now printed out of industrial printers on mass and pasted up wherever possible. We forget how quickly times move, it was only a few generations back that hand painting was the only option available for mural sized advertisements. It is a precise and painstaking technique not to mention somewhat precarious. Mastering the appearance of a painting that will never be viewed from less than a hundred meters away is quite a tricky business.
This short film has been funded by Stella Artois. Yet despite this maintains an authenticity and rare sight into this dying art and its painters. The techniques will live on through large scale paintings in art gallery exhibitions, but its reign over the streets we walk is well over.
